Information For Dentists Interested in the ADAP
Program
American Dental Alliance Plans, Inc. (ADAP) is an Alliance of dentists who have
formed their own group to provide a self-administered (by the participating
dental office), dental service plan for individuals and businesses. Members pay
monthly membership dues to their participating member dentist through ADAP and
most of these fees go to the dental office in the form of a monthly payment.
ADAP is a group of general dentists and specialists formed to provide quality
dental care and service and to give the highest respect for the patient. The
main benefit to a dentist is that there is no 3rd party administrator involved
in the treatment decisions between the doctor and patient. ADAP plans were
designed by dentists with the patient in mind. The dentist's staff
administers the plans in the dental office and all treatment diagnoses and
costs are discussed directly between the patient and the doctor prior to
beginning treatment. ADAP provides a program and assists the dental office to
administer these plans and to make certain that it is profitable for the
dentist.
ADAP was formed to improve patient/dentist relationships by providing a plan
with good benefits and with membership dues that were reasonably priced in the
market place. Network dentists wanted to expand their advertising dollar by
forming a cooperative that would measure the dentist's ability, not by an
insurance industry standard, rather the standard that drives dental care
markets naturally, service. Too often patients are driven from one plan to
another by premium costs paid by themselves or their employer. They would
switch dentists because their new dental plan did not accept services they
needed. This unnatural force on the dental industry has caused significant
confusion and consternation between the patient and you, the dentist. ADAP
promotes the development of good, long-lasting dentist-patient relationships.
There are two parts to the ADAP Program and you may choose if you want to
participate in one or both parts of the program. The first part is the Alliance
Plan or better known as the ADAP Plan. ADAP markets to individuals and
businesses through agents, direct marketing and website access and acts as an
agent, on behalf of the dentist, to bring patients to the dentist. When a
person signs up with ADAP, the agreement is directly between the member-patient
and the dentist. The second part of the ADAP Program is a Private Dental plan
(PDP). The PDP is similar to the ADAP Plan but is a customized "in-house"
dental plan that fits the services offered by the dental office. The dental
office markets/promotes their PDP to their patient base and outside
individuals/companies and ADAP acts merely as a billing and reporting service.
The PDP is ideal for offices who want to drop unprofitable dental or insurance
plans and does not want to lose the patient load.
The main benefits for the dental office are:
This provides the highest dental serviceability available and since there is no
plan administrator for treatment decisions, the savings can be realized by the
dental office by participating in the monthly fees. The dental office receives
the majority of the monthly payment.
ADAP markets to small businesses, individuals and self-employed people that
need dental coverage on a "voluntary" basis. This is an underserved market and
many dental or insurance plans do not always provide the best dental coverage
for these patients. ADAP's marketing approach is to enroll individuals and
businesses wanting quality dental coverage for themselves and their employees.
These members want to be confident that they are getting good dental service at
a good value.
With your participation we can make ADAP the best dental coverage plan
available on the market today and set a new standard by which dental services
will be measured.
What is a private dental plan?
A Private Dental Plan (PDP) is simply an alternate method for patients to pay
for their dental care. It utilizes the same concepts of dental service plans
today. Patients pay a monthly membership fee for discounts on services and is
actuarially
calculated so you earn your full private fee. However, the dentist has complete
control of the pricing, plan discounts, plan terms & conditions, and the
co-payments are based on the dentist's private fee schedule.
ADAP consults with the dentist to customize and set up the plan, assists in the
marketing of the plan, and performs the billing/collection on behalf of the
dentist. The PDP does not become a front office burden and is actually easier
to administer because the office doesn't have to call for approvals, doesn't
submit claim forms or pre-authorizations, or call for late payments.
Why You Should Own Your Own Dental Plan:
-
Increase Your Practice Income.
Insurance and Dental plan companies make money. If they didn't, there wouldn't
as many be as many as there are. By offering your own dental plan to your
existing active and inactive accounts, you can increase your production
revenues by up to 30 percent by receiving all of the monthly premiums.
-
Improve Patient Retention.
By providing your patients with affordable dental coverage available only
through your practice, you can establish long-term patient relationships.
Patients receive better value for their dental dollar and they prefer working
with you - the dentist rather than a 3rd party agent. They are no longer loyal
to their insurance company, but to you.
-
Eliminate 3rd Party Intervention.
How many times has your office had to alter treatment plans or deny coverage
for your patients because the plan didn't cover a specific procedure? Have you
denied services to a patient because they are 'lapsed' or haven't properly
selected your office? Are you tired of arguing how much you can charge for your
services and being "corrected" for misapplying plan benefits? Have you ever
wanted to utilize new technology and discovered that insurance companies won't
cover it? By offering your own private dental plan, you can charge your normal
fee, set the plan rates and benefits, and have total control of the plan
administration.
-
Increase Treatment Acceptance.
Is it easier to sell restorative work to an insured patient or one paying cash?
By offering a private dental plan, a patient can receive value for their
premium and will be more likely to accept higher cost work. This provides a
higher value for your chair time and adds revenue to your bottom line.
-
'No-Hassle' Billing, Collection and Reporting System.
We have made this process extremely simple to bill and collect the monthly
membership fees. You only need to fax the completed application to our office
and then we electronically bill your member-patient for you each month. Your
office will receive the check and be supplied with detailed monthly reports of
the member-patient transactions.
